Le miniere, una volta conclusasi l'attività estrattiva, vengono spesso riempite di acqua della falda acquifera che, in assenza di pompaggio, riprende il suo corso. Interi livelli, con i loro arteffati e strutture vengono perciò a trovarsi sommersi.
